During your training at OTTC we will teach you how to design various complete refrigeration and cooling plants. We will teach you the calculation of materials needed. As well as, time permitting, the cost of the plant.

DESIGN OF A COMPLETE AMMONIA PLANT
EXAMPLE: AN ABATTOIR
DESIGN A PLANT WITH CO2 AS SECONDARY REFRIGERANT
EXAMPLE: ICE RINK

With this design for the ice bank plant you have two options – either water or glycol cooling plant. We teach you how to establish the required capacity and then you decide on compressor type. Either screw compressor or reciprocating compressor.

We will teach you to select evaporation and condensing temperatures also how to design the evaporator and condenser. We guide you through the selection of compressors and pumps and teach you to design the surge
drum.

For the next step we teach you to make P & ID also to size pipes as well as valves.
For your design you will select an expansion device (plant with or without receiver).
Then you make a complete electrical description of the plant function. Also make a list of all material needed.

You will calculate the required ammonia charge as well as establish installed and absorbed power.
Finally you will calculate COP (coefficient of performance).

At the end of the week a written test will be given where a 75% pass rate is required.

PUMP RE-CIRCULATION SYSTEMS

OTTC will teach you to design pump re-circulation systems. You will select the room dimensions of a freezer and a chiller and calculate the required capacities.
You select the system you want to design – either screw compressors or piston compressors.

Thereafter you select condenser, evaporators as well as separator, also ammonia pumps.
Design valve stations and all equipment around the separator then select the expansion devices for a plant with or without a receiver.
You make P & ID also size pipes as well as valves.

After you make a complete electrical description of the plant function, you make a list of all material needed. You will calculate the required ammonia charge as well as establish installed and absorbed power, also calculate water consumption of the condenser.
Lastly calculate COP (coefficient of performance).

To price the entire plant:
You will need to price all pipes, valves and insulation. Calculate transport costs, crane, including crane expenses, AIA inspection and NDT. Also travel expenses, electrical panel, cabling, as well as labour and supervision. Site establishment, instruction manual and commissioning.

At the end of the week a written test will be given where a 75% pass rate is required.
